The Basics - CS: Source Quick Tips
Have no patience for drawn out banter about CS? Just want some tips to help improve your game? Then you’ve come to the right place.
Quick Tips
Never fire on a ladder. The accuracy is terrible, and you might as well type kill in console.
Buy Kevlar and a Helmet. This increases your survival rate in virtually all situations.
Learn to use Grenades effectively. Don’t just spam flashbangs incessantly, you’re more than likely blinding your own team. Watch the better players in your server throw their nades to pick up tips.
Reloading after every kill is not wise. You have multiple bullets in a clip for a reason. Don’t reload every time you fire the gun, or get a kill. Wait till you are in a situation where you are able to reload safely.
You have a Pistol for a reason! If you run out of bullets with your Primary Weapon, and you are in a dire situation, then switch to your pistol if no cover is immediately available. The pistol is the last resort, and a better option than trying to get off a reload.
Team taking a beating? Suggest a save round. A save round is where you refrain from buying anything and venture out with your pistol, or maybe your pistol and kevlar. This enables you to buy a rifle next round, win or lose. If you are able to coordinate the save round with your team, then all of you will be in a great situation next round.
ALWAYS look to do damage. If you venture out without cover and find yourself in front of multiple enemies, make sure to put your waste of life to good use. Either spray into the crowd, or look to take out one guy to help even up things for your teammates.
Blocking is bad. If your teammate pops out of cover, do not immediately pop out along side of him, he was probably just popping out and back in to take a shot, or see where the enemy is. You popping out along side of him, blocks him from returning to cover, and will most likely end up resulting in his demise.
Learn the Buy Menu. Familiarize yourself with the Buy menu. Figure out which guns you like, and learn the numbers so you can buy and get out of spawn as quickly as possible. The longer you lag around, the less help you are to your team, and the more likely you will be a sitting duck.
You run faster with a knife, or a pistol. If you need to cover a large distance fast, consider taking out your pistol or your knife, you will run faster and be able to get to cover faster. This is usually utilized in the beginning of a round, when you know the enemy is in spawn.
